Kansas has many Army Forts. We will visit a few of them now.

Soldiers stationed at these forts had several different jobs. The main job was to protect settlers. The forts near the Missouri border were very important during the Civil War.

The forts we will visit, I will only say just a little about them. If you would like to know more, you can read about them in several books.

We are now entering Ft. Leavenworth. The first tents were pitched in 1827, and this fort is still active today. But the only modern thing you will see is the bus.

Ft. Leavenworth was used to muster in units during the war. And to muster them out too.

The Army keep very good records of what they issued a soldier. When he was mustered out, the Army wanted it all back.
